Why Wood Stove Systems Need Special Cleaning
Wood stoves and wood insert fireplaces operate differently than traditional open fireplaces. Because their airflow is throttled down to maintain long, slow burns, the exhaust gases cool down quickly. When smoke cools inside a metal stovepipe, it instantly condenses into sticky, flammable creosote.
Since wood stove flues are typically narrower (often 6 inches in diameter compared to 12-inch fireplace flues), a small amount of creosote buildup restricts venting speed significantly. This causes draft issues, leading to smoke venting into your home or triggering a chimney fire. Our crew disconnects the stovepipe, cleans the flue path from top to bottom, checks the baffle plates, and sweeps the firebox interior cleanly.
We also inspect your stove’s door gasket seal. A worn or frayed fiberglass gasket lets uncontrolled oxygen bypass the dampers, making the stove burn too hot and wasting firewood.
